Silverbirch Medical Practice, Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland

SMS Text Messaging Service

In order to allow us to communicate with you in the most efficient, effective and convenient way possible we have introduced SMS text messaging.  This allows the doctors, nurses, physician associates, receptionists and other staff in the practice to send an SMS text message to you directly from our clinical system with a copy of the message automatically being stored in your medical record. Currently the system will only allow outgoing messages.

We may choose to send you an SMS text message for a number of reasons, including, but not limited to:

  • Sending an appointment reminder
  • Sending a link to a form or page on the practice website
  • Sending a link to a patient information leaflet or resource on another website
  • Sending you a message if we have tried to call you or return your call and we haven't been able to reach you
  • Sending a message to inform you of results of bloods tests, blood pressure measurement, swabs, x-rays, scans, or smears
  • Sending you a message to remind you when tests are required to monitor the safety and effectiveness of your medications
  • Sending you messages to let you know when prescriptions are ready
  • Sending you a message about a change in medication dosage
  • Sending you a medication if we need you to speak to a GP, Pharmacist or PA about a prescription request or Fit Note request
  • Sending you a message to invite you for a Long Term Condition clinic such as the COPD clinic, Asthma Clinic, Diabetes Clinic, Dementia Clinic, Rheumatoid Arthritis Clinic, Mental Health Clinic
  • Sending you an invite for cervical smear
  • Sending you an invite for the Flu Clinic

If you would like to sign up to this service please complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the SMS Communication Consent Form to ensure we have your correct mobile phone number
  2. Bring the completed form to the practice in person along with photo ID

If you are unable to print a copy of the SMS Communication Consent Form at home and don't have anyone who can print it for you, don't worry, we have copies of the form available in the practice.
